Three major North Slope producers told the Alaska Senate Finance Committee they signed gas sale precedent agreements for Alaska LNG Phase 1 and will sell at the lease line. That structure means midstream pipeline and treatment costs won't be deductible against oil production tax.

Hilcorp Alaska wants a five-year permit to drive off-road across North Slope state lands. The real question is who controls the conditions on subsistence land.

Daily production has fallen from 450 million cubic feet per day in 2010 to around 200 million in 2026. Winter demand hits 320 million cubic feet per day, forcing ENSTAR to plan LNG imports by 2033.

Two companies filed applications to convert depleted Cook Inlet gas fields into storage facilities. The state is accepting public comments on proposals aimed at shoring up Southcentral Alaska's gas supply as the basin matures.
Hilcorp and ENSTAR have both applied to convert the Kenai Loop Gas Field into storage, setting up a potential conflict over subsurface rights as Alaska pushes to expand storage capacity ahead of LNG export decisions.

The state is taking public comment on Hilcorp's application to store natural gas in depleted Beluga River reservoirs for winter peak demand. The lease area overlaps salmon habitat and beluga whale critical habitat on the west side of Cook Inlet.

The Senate Resources Committee conducted a confirmation hearing for John Crowther, the governor's nominee for Commissioner of the Department of Natural Resources.
The Kenai City Council voted Wednesday to double the budget for a consultant managing the lease of city land used for natural gas storage, raising the contract by $30,000 to $60,000 amid uncertainty over future renewals and FAA compliance.

Two major utilities serving Southcentral Alaska told state lawmakers Tuesday that residential customers face steep rate increases starting in 2029, when existing Cook Inlet gas contracts expire and utilities shift to LNG imports priced 50–100% higher than current supply.

The state approved a 71.91-acre easement expansion on June 1 for Hilcorp to drill new wellbores from Oliktok Point. Drilling is set to begin early this month. The public comment window closed May 29.
Alaska's DNR posted an application to expand Point Thomson, a remote North Slope gas field central to the proposed 800-mile Alaska LNG pipeline.

Cook Inlet basin gas production dropped to approximately 61 billion cubic feet in 2025—down from 79 Bcf in 2016—while annual demand holds near 65-70 Bcf, according to Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission data presented by ENSTAR to legislators.

Hilcorp Cook Inlet filed Friday for a gas storage lease covering 1,330 acres of subsurface reservoir in Kenai city limits. Public comments are due July 7.
