Chugach Electric CEO Arthur Miller told members Thursday that the utility's Hilcorp gas contract expires in 2028 and its own Beluga River Unit field reaches end of economic life by 2035, leaving LNG imports as the fallback if in-state supply falls short.

Chugach Electric Association and Glenfarne Alaska LNG signed a non-binding letter of intent on June 15 to negotiate North Slope gas supply via the proposed 807-mile pipeline, a concrete commercial step that puts Anchorage-area ratepayers closer to a long-term supply decision.

Chugach Electric Association CEO Arthur Miller told members Thursday that the utility has filed preliminary permit applications for four hydroelectric projects totaling 52 megawatts, with a formal go-or-no-go decision expected later in 2026 and construction potentially beginning in 2033.

Chugach Electric Association's board reviewed 2025 accomplishments including the MLNP integration, labor contract renegotiations, and adoption of an Integrated Resource Plan. Gas supply uncertainty dominated discussion, with the board moving quickly on storage agreements and short-term imports to keep power reliable and affordable for members.
