Alaska News is published by Communities News LLC, registered in Alaska and based in Anchorage. The company builds and operates the Communities News platform, of which this newsroom is one instance. See communities.news for the platform itself.

No investor owns any part of it. There is no venture funding, no outside shareholder, and no parent media group.

Revenue comes from reader subscriptions. A subscription splits in two: half becomes credits the reader spends on articles, which go to the author of what they read, and half funds the platform.

No advertising. No sponsored articles, no paid placements, and no arrangement under which anyone pays to be covered or to avoid being covered.

Some work is contributed by volunteers who run transcription on their own machines. Where a volunteer’s machine produced the transcript behind an article, the article credits them.
