Hoonah, known in Tlingit as Xunaa and Gaaw Yat'aḵ Aan, is a city on Chichagof Island in Southeast Alaska, in the Hoonah-Angoon Census Area near Icy Strait. It is the largest Tlingit village in Alaska, and its village corporation is Huna Totem Corporation.
Tourism shapes much of its economy. Huna Totem's Icy Strait Point cruise port brings large cruise ships to the village under long-term agreements with lines such as Disney, and the corporation has expanded into its own vessels and a waterfront development in Juneau. Dock expansions there require federal permits for underwater noise that affects marine mammals.
Huna Totem also owns businesses beyond Hoonah, including HunaTek, a Juneau company that does federal contracting. Closer to home, oyster farming on state tideland leases adds to a local economy built around the sea.
