HunaTek takes a State Department order worth up to $6 million

A Juneau company owned by Huna Totem Corporation will staff the State Department's bureau covering Latin America and the Caribbean, under an order worth $1,038,213 in its first year.

The department placed the order with HunaTek System Solutions on Friday. If every option is exercised, the assignment runs to 2031 and reaches $5,976,640.

Nobody competed for it. The federal record lists the order as not available for competition and from a single source, drawing on a staffing contract the department gave HunaTek in November 2022 after receiving one offer. That contract carries a $15 million ceiling.

It is not the company's only work inside the department. HunaTek holds a separate $9.4 million order on the same contract, supporting the Bureau of African Affairs.

Huna Totem is the village corporation for Hoonah, formed under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act. HunaTek says on its website that its federal subsidiaries "support critical federal priorities while helping generate long-term economic benefits for Alaska Native shareholders and communities."
