Hiker flown off Sigugu Shaa mountain near Hoonah after seizure
A hiker who suffered a seizure on Sigugu Shaa mountain near Hoonah was rescued and flown to a hospital last week, Alaska State Troopers said. Medics stabilized the hiker on the mountain before the flight out. The troopers' account did not identify the hiker or give an update on their condition.
Two teams handled the rescue: Capital City Fire/Rescue, which works with local helicopter operators to reach places that can't be gotten to any other way, and Juneau Mountain Rescue, an all-volunteer group trained in medical, avalanche and technical rope rescues.
The Juneau volunteers have stayed busy across Southeast Alaska this summer. In July they helped an injured hiker on the Heintzleman Ridge Trail, and in August they joined the multi-agency search for a hiker who went missing at Port Armstrong.
