Free one-on-one computer help offered twice a week at the Mat-Su Job Center
Tutors from the Alaska Literacy Program are offering free one-on-one computer help twice a week at the Mat-Su Job Center in Wasilla, the state labor department said Thursday.
The sessions run Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30 to 3:30 pm at 877 Commercial Drive. No appointment is needed.
Tutors can help with email and internet basics, like attaching a resume to an email. They can also help people search and apply for jobs online, avoid scams and stay safe on the web, and use Word, Excel, Google Docs and Sheets. The department's May notice also listed paying bills or connecting with loved ones online, translating websites and typing practice.
The job center's resource room has computers for online applications, plus printers, copiers and scanners, a staff member said in a department video in May.
The department announced the same days and hours in May.
The Alaska Literacy Program has operated since 1974 and has a Mat-Su office in Palmer. Its regular classes cost $25 for an eight-week quarter, with a sliding scale for people who can't afford it.
The state's draft workforce plan for 2026 and 2027 says uneven broadband access and gaps in digital literacy limit participation in online education, workforce services and job searches, particularly in rural areas.
