Free drop-in digital literacy tutoring from the Alaska Literacy Program is available at the Mat-Su Job Center in Wasilla. The sessions offer one-on-one help for residents who want to feel more confident using a computer.

The tutoring runs Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at 877 Commercial Dr. in Wasilla. No appointment is needed.

Tutors will help participants set up and use email, search and apply for jobs online, and avoid scams and stay safe on the web. The program also covers using Word, Excel, Google Docs, and Sheets. Participants can get help paying bills or connecting with loved ones online, translating websites, and typing practice.

Adult literacy programs in the Mat-Su Borough have expanded in recent years to include digital technology training alongside GED preparation and English instruction, according to coverage from the Matanuska-Susitna Valley Sentinel in September 2024. The Alaska Literacy Program provides adult education and digital literacy instruction across Alaska, including classes on basic computer use, email etiquette, and Microsoft program skills.

The Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development operates the Alaska Job Center Network, which includes the Mat-Su Job Center.

For questions about the tutoring sessions, call the Mat-Su Job Center at 907-352-2500.
