Bartlett hospital recruiting four directors at once among 29 openings

Bartlett Regional Hospital is recruiting four directors at the same time, for nursing, pharmacy, accounting, and home health and hospice. All four are on the state's weekly Juneau job list, where Bartlett accounts for 29 postings, more than any other Juneau employer.

The openings run from the top down: alongside the four director roles are registered nurses, certified nursing assistants, house supervisors, fiscal technicians and surgical technicians. An earlier weekly list showed Bartlett posting 39 openings at once, roughly half of all Juneau-area postings that week.

The mix matters most to the people already working there. When director-level and bedside nursing jobs are open at the same time, staff can face heavier coverage and fewer experienced leaders on hand for day-to-day clinical support. In a town that leans on one main hospital, gaps like that can ripple into patient flow, retention and access to care.

Bartlett's career page frames the openings as ordinary recruitment, and the hospital flagged the challenge in its budget talks earlier this year. At a Feb. 25 joint meeting of the Assembly Finance Committee and the hospital board, Joe Wanner said, "As our patients age, so do our employees, and so we have retirement, and so we want to make sure that we are an employer of choice so recruitment isn't a burden to us."
