Troopers arrest driver after semitrailer collapses onto pickup on Parks Highway

A commercial semitrailer collapsed onto a pickup bed on the Parks Highway in Wasilla on Wednesday. Troopers arrested driver Donovan Lee, accusing him of taking the trailer from a nearby business and moving it with a Chevy pickup near Vine Road.

Troopers said the rig consisted of several cinderblocks stacked in the truck bed with a fifth-wheel assembly set loosely on top, unsecured except for wrapped chains. The setup failed under the trailer's weight as Lee drove, crushing the cinderblocks and leaving the trailer resting on the sides of the truck bed.

Lee faces charges of first-degree theft, driving without a commercial driver's license and reckless driving. He is presumed innocent and held without bail at Mat-Su Pretrial.
