Troopers arrest Wasilla driver on DUI charge after KGB Road crash
A Wasilla man, 44, was arrested and accused of driving under the influence after his truck struck a guardrail and then hit the rear of a semi-trailer at mile 12 of Knik-Goose Bay Road on Thursday, Alaska State Troopers said.
The semi-trailer's driver called it in. Troopers responding at about 9:48 a.m. found the other driver slumped over and holding a can of compressed air, according to the trooper dispatch.
He was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and violating conditions of release, which applies to a person released on conditions in an earlier case. He was remanded to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility in Palmer on $1,250 bail. The charges are accusations, and he is presumed innocent.
The dispatch does not say whether anyone was injured or give a court date.
The state designated Knik-Goose Bay Road a traffic safety corridor in 2009 because of elevated fatalities and major crashes, the transportation department says. Its reconstruction of the road stops at Settlers Bay Drive, milepost 8.4, short of mile 12.
