Troopers arrest Healy woman accused of squatting in seasonal cabins near Denali

A Healy woman is being held without bail after Alaska State Troopers said she trespassed and stayed in seasonal cabins in the Denali area.

Troopers got the first report Friday evening. Before they arrived, Krista Zappone, 37, left on a motorcycle, troopers said. A second caller then reported a motorcycle in his yard and someone inside his house. Troopers arrested Zappone near Mile 229 of the Parks Highway.

She faces two counts of first-degree criminal trespass, one count of second-degree criminal trespass, fourth-degree theft, tampering with a vehicle and two counts of violating her conditions of release. She is being held at Fairbanks Correctional Center. Charges are accusations, and she is presumed innocent.

Troopers had arrested Zappone twice earlier this month: on Sept. 3 in Healy on a fourth-degree domestic violence assault charge, and on Sept. 9 on charges of unlawful contact and violating her conditions of release. She was held without bail both times.
