Troopers arrest Fairbanks woman on felony DUI charge after Parks Highway sign crash

A driver on the Parks Highway near Denali hit a highway sign Thursday and kept going after another motorist reported the vehicle was struggling to stay on the road, Alaska State Troopers said.

Troopers got the tip at 5 p.m. about a silver Toyota RAV4 heading south near Mile 240, according to the trooper dispatch. The vehicle struck a sign at Mile 232. Troopers caught up with the driver, Lillybeth Hansen, 32, of Fairbanks, at Mile 231.

Hansen's breath alcohol level measured 0.260 grams per 210 liters, nearly four hours after troopers made contact. State law sets Alaska's presumptive DUI threshold at 0.08.

Hansen is charged with felony DUI, driving with a revoked license, and leaving the scene of an accident. Alaska law makes a DUI a felony when a driver has two or more prior qualifying convictions, court records show. She was booked into Fairbanks Correctional Center and is held without bail pending arraignment. The charges are accusations, and she is presumed innocent.
