Troopers arrest woman for DUI after SUV hits median at Big Lake recreation area

A 47-year-old woman was arrested on a DUI charge early Sunday after her SUV struck and damaged a median at Big Lake North State Recreation Area, Alaska State Troopers say.

Troopers got a report of a possible DUI collision at about 12:40 a.m. and found the disabled Chevrolet Traverse. She was found at a nearby house and arrested for driving under the influence and failure to give immediate notice of an accident, per trooper dispatch AK26093542. She was remanded to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility and later released without bail.

The charges are accusations, and she is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

Alaska Statute 28.35.080 requires notice by the quickest means available, to local police or, outside a municipality, the Department of Public Safety, when a crash injures or kills someone or appears to cause $2,000 or more in damage. Troopers released no damage estimate.
