A multi-vehicle crash shut the Sterling Highway in both directions at Milepost 164 as of 3:11 p.m. Thursday, and the state expects it to stay closed for several hours — likely into the evening. Drivers are being routed onto the Old Sterling Highway in the meantime.

Officials haven't released information on injuries or what caused the crash. Check Alaska 511 for the latest before heading out, since the reopening time isn't set.
