Seward Highway closed both directions at Mile 69 after collision

A motor vehicle collision closed both lanes of the Seward Highway at Mile 69 in the Turnagain Pass area early Tuesday morning, the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities reported. Emergency vehicles are on scene. The closure is expected to last at least one hour.

Motorists traveling in either direction should expect delays.

What Past Closures Show

Full closures on this corridor have run well beyond initial estimates before. On July 1, 2026, the Anchorage Fire Department said a fatal crash near Potter Marsh shut the highway in both directions from shortly after 9:00 AM until approximately 4:30 PM. Alaska State Troopers issued similar guidance after an overturned semi closed the road at Mile 15 in July 2024: "There is no detour around the closure; please avoid the area."
