Assembly candidate Berga discloses North Slope job, Kenai Fish stake

Nathan Berga is the only candidate for the District 7 seat on the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly, so barring a write-in he will hold it. His financial disclosure, filed Monday with the Alaska Public Offices Commission, shows income from North Slope oilfield work and an ownership stake in a Soldotna fishing business.

Berga reported earning between $50,000 and $100,000 managing the drilling support division on the North Slope for MagTec Alaska, from January through May 2025. He holds an ownership interest in Kenai Fish, LLC, in Soldotna, and he and his spouse own property in Kasilof. The report covers 2025.

Assembly members who have a substantial financial interest in something before them are required to say so and ask to be excused from the vote. Nothing in state law keeps a candidate with business interests from serving.

District 7 covers the central peninsula and carries a two-year term. Several candidates filed Monday as the borough's filing period closed that afternoon. The election is Nov. 3.
