Bartlett Regional Hospital recruiting four directors at once, state job list shows

Bartlett Regional Hospital is recruiting four directors at once: nursing, pharmacy, accounting, and home health and hospice. All four appear on the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development's weekly Juneau job list for July 30 through Aug. 6.

The list carries 29 Bartlett postings, more than any other Juneau employer on it. The roles include registered nurses, certified nursing assistants, house supervisors, fiscal technicians, and surgical technicians. An earlier state list showed Bartlett posting 39 openings in a single week, roughly half of all Juneau-area postings at the time. Two weekly snapshots alone do not establish how often the hospital posts at that volume.

Bartlett is Juneau's primary hospital. Its career page frames the openings as ordinary recruitment: "We encourage all qualified applicants to apply for any positions they are interested in through the links below." Listings can be viewed through AlaskaJobs. The state list gives only job titles, order numbers, and employer names. It carries no job descriptions and no hospital explanation of the volume.

The mix matters to people already working there. When director-level jobs and bedside nursing jobs are open at the same time, staff can face heavier coverage demands and fewer experienced leaders on hand for day-to-day clinical support. In a community that depends on one main hospital, such gaps can affect patient flow, retention, and access to services.

Recruitment came up in the hospital's budget discussions earlier this year. At a Feb. 25 joint meeting of the Assembly Finance Committee and the hospital board, Joe Wanner said, "So as our patients age, so do our employees, and so we have retirement, and so we want to make sure that we are an employer of choice so recruitment isn't a burden to us."
