Troopers arrest Unalakleet man on child sexual abuse and burglary charges

Alaska State Troopers arrested Bruce Eakon Jr., 22, of Unalakleet on Monday on an outstanding warrant from a July burglary investigation that troopers say produced evidence of first-degree sexual abuse of a minor, first-degree burglary and multiple counts of production and possession of child sexual abuse material. Bail was set at $200,000.

The charges are accusations. Eakon is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

Troopers took Bruce Eakon Jr. into custody at 12:44 p.m. on an outstanding warrant, according to a daily dispatch posted Tuesday. he warrant grew out of the July 25 burglary call.

Residents reported seeing an unknown man running from their home, troopers said. Inside, the residents found an unclothed minor in a bedroom, along with a cell phone the suspect had dropped. Information and media on that phone identified Eakon as the suspect and supported charges of first-degree sexual abuse of a minor, first-degree burglary, and multiple counts of production and possession of child sexual abuse material.

The dispatch reflects troopers' account alone. It lists no court date and no attorney for Eakon. It also does not say what charges prosecutors have actually filed, describing instead what troopers say the phone provided evidence of.
