Troopers arrest Sterling driver on DUI charge after head-on crash at mile 84

A head-on collision on the Sterling Highway sent one driver to medical care Tuesday evening and left the other facing a DUI charge after a breath test measured 0.244% — more than three times the legal limit.

Troopers were called to mile 84 around 5:37 p.m. A 24-year-old Sterling woman was driving a pickup north when a Chevrolet Impala pulled out of a driveway directly into her path, troopers said. She was taken for care with possible minor injuries. The Impala's driver, a 33-year-old Sterling man, was uninjured and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence; he later gave the breath sample.

The charge is an accusation, and the man is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
