Three DUI arrests in one day span Kenai Peninsula and Fairbanks

Three DUI arrests Saturday on Alaska highways included two injury crashes on the Kenai Peninsula and a Fairbanks collision that sent a driver to the hospital.

Near mile 55 of the Seward Highway outside Hope, troopers determined a 28-year-old Palmer woman caused a crash while impaired. She faces third-degree assault, DUI, and refusal to submit to a chemical test. Troopers remanded her to Wildwood Correctional Center, where she is held pending arraignment. That evening, troopers stopped a 46-year-old Anchorage woman near mile 39 of the Sterling Highway in Cooper Landing. She was booked at Wildwood on $500 bail on a DUI charge.

In Fairbanks, a 39-year-old woman faces six charges including DUI, reckless endangerment, and third-degree assault after a crash at Aurora Drive and College Road sent another driver to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital.

Department of Public Safety Commissioner James Cockrell said earlier this summer that troopers would be out in force on the Seward and Sterling highways to arrest impaired drivers.

All charges are accusations. Each defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
