Troopers arrested a 35-year-old Soldotna man Friday night after a rear-end crash near the Ciechanski neighborhood, according to an Alaska State Troopers dispatch. He faces charges of assault, DUI, resisting arrest, violating conditions of release and leaving the scene of an accident.

The crash happened at about 9:24 pm. The car that was hit was stopped at a stop sign, troopers said. A witness told troopers the driver who caused the crash was trying to leave the scene and appeared to be intoxicated, and troopers said he was still trying to leave when they arrived.

Troopers accuse him of resisting arrest and assaulting a trooper at the scene. Investigators determined he was under the influence of alcohol and had caused pain to the two people in the car he hit, according to the dispatch.

He was taken to Wildwood Pretrial Facility. The charges are accusations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
