Peterson Avenue closes this weekend for a utility line, detour in place

Peterson Avenue near Halibut Point Road will be closed all weekend, Saturday and Sunday, while a contractor installs a utility line across both lanes. The closure applies to everyone, drivers, cyclists and pedestrians alike, who will be routed around it.

There is no posted detour route to follow. Drivers should watch for traffic-control signs and follow flaggers on site.

The weekend shutdown is part of a bigger job. Island Contractors is replacing sidewalk and upgrading pedestrian lighting along Halibut Point Road near Peterson Avenue, working 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily for about six weeks, and Peterson Avenue may close again briefly during later phases. The broader project, a state road job, is meant to add a pedestrian crossing and improve visibility at the intersection.
