Sitka crosswalk art project brings morning delays to Lincoln Street starting Thursday

Drivers on Lincoln Street should expect morning delays Thursday and Friday as volunteers paint decorative crosswalk art in Sitka's downtown area, part of a temporary pedestrian safety demonstration designed to make crosswalks more visible and increase driver awareness.

Outer Coast volunteers, working with the City and Borough of Sitka, will paint the crosswalks Thursday, July 23, and Friday, July 24, from 9 a.m. to noon each day. If weather forces a postponement, the work shifts to July 27 and 28.

The project was developed through Sitka's participation in the Walkability Action Institute, aimed at improving pedestrian safety on existing downtown crosswalks. Sitka Public Works will provide traffic control, including signage, cones, and personnel on site. Motorists should follow posted directions and watch for traffic control workers.
