Juneau to close five downtown and Douglas streets to vehicles for winter
Five streets in downtown Juneau and Douglas will close to vehicles for the winter starting Friday, the City and Borough of Juneau said in a notice Wednesday.
Downtown, the closures cover 5th Street and Nelson on Starr Hill, 3rd Street and Harris, and Lower Goldbelt Avenue. In Douglas, Fairbanks Street and Summers Street will close.
The city's Streets and Fleet division said the closures are "for the safety of residents during the winter." The notice doesn't say when the streets will reopen or whether people who live on them keep any vehicle access.
