Eaglecrest has brought in $2.77 million of its $4.26 million budget, report shows
Juneau has already transferred to Eaglecrest Ski Area the full $1.68 million the city budgeted for it this year, about 40% of the mountain's $4.26 million budget, according to a report the Eaglecrest Finance Committee reviews at noon Wednesday.
Eaglecrest has also sold 1,815 season passes, about $941,000 in gross sales, since the fiscal year began July 1, including 882 adult unlimited passes, and passes stay on sale through the end of the season.
The report also compares pass sales with past years, though it doesn't say whether the earlier figures are full-season totals or sales through late October. Those figures fell from 4,139 passes and $1.38 million in fiscal 2022 to 3,043 passes and $1.08 million in fiscal 2026. Adult unlimited passes, the biggest seller, fell from 1,604 to 1,056 over that span.
All told, Eaglecrest has taken in $2.77 million of its $4.26 million in budgeted revenue and spent $1.43 million, or $1.7 million counting money already committed.
The city's $1.68 million is what Eaglecrest's board had said it needed to stay open. An Assembly committee had set a $930,000 target, Alaska News reported July 7, and Assembly finance materials said staying at that level would have meant cutting staff by 56%.
Separately, the Assembly voted in May to end the city's investment in an Eaglecrest gondola and repay Goldbelt Inc. $12.2 million, $10 million in principal plus interest.
The city's adopted budget cites "project delays and significant cost escalations." A construction estimate had come in at $27 million, well above the $10 million to $15 million officials expected, according to minutes of a March 4 meeting. Goldbelt said in a June 8 statement that it "participated solely as a financial partner."
