Free school supplies offered in Nome on Aug. 26

Nome families worried about paying for school supplies have a free option on Wednesday, Aug. 26. The Nome Recreation Center will host a giveaway from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., with free snacks and crafts offered alongside the supplies.

Kawerak Wellness, the Kawerak Child Advocacy Center and Norton Sound Health Corporation's CAMP department are organizing the Back to School Bash together. Kawerak describes itself as a tribal consortium and non-profit corporation based in Nome. Norton Sound Health Corporation provides health care across the Bering Strait region, and CAMP is its community wellness department, which also runs tobacco prevention, injury prevention and fitness programs.

Kawerak's event listing says the three are "once again teaming up."
