At-Sea Processors Association sets Oct. 29 job fair at Anchorage Midtown Job Center

Alaskans looking for work aboard Bering Sea catcher/processor vessels can walk into a job fair on Thursday, Oct. 29, when the At-Sea Processors Association holds a recruitment event from 10 a.m. to noon at the Seafood Employment Office inside the Anchorage Midtown Job Center, 3301 Eagle St. The Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development publicized the event in a bulletin.

Five member companies are listed as participating: American Seafoods, Arctic Storm, Coastal Villages Region Fund, Glacier Fish and Trident Seafoods. Together they operate 15 US-flag catcher/processor vessels working principally in the Eastern Bering Sea Alaska pollock fishery, which the association says accounts for more than a third of all US fishery landings each year and produces more than 3 billion seafood meals annually.

An April 23 Alaska Job Center Network flyer for a similar at-sea processor recruitment with American Seafoods described the job as work in the Pacific, Gulf of Alaska, Bering Sea and Aleutians, where "the work is strenuous and sometimes hazardous, with the vessel operating in all types of weather conditions."
