Anchorage Assembly set to waive protest on six marijuana license renewals

Most of a batch of Anchorage marijuana license renewals are set to proceed without a city objection, but one shop drew a protest after the municipality said it owes about $12,760 and faces a pending land-use inspection.

Two resolutions from Assembly Chair Anna Brawley would clear the state renewals of four cannabis businesses without a city protest. Three — Vital Gardens, Bad Habits and MaryJane's Cannabis Emporium — would also renew their municipal licenses, after the clerk found none owed taxes, fees or fines. The fourth, Secret Garden Cannabis in Fairview, had only its state retail, manufacturing and cultivation licenses up this year, so those alone were at issue.

AK Legend Gardens, in the Taku/Campbell area, drew a conditional protest on its state cultivation license after a public hearing. The city cited the unpaid balance and the pending inspection.

A conditional protest doesn't block a renewal outright. The state marijuana board can still approve the license, according to Alcohol and Marijuana Control Office Director Kevin Richard, but can require the business to first show it has met the city's requirements.
