A tip about a truck running over seagulls ended in a DUI arrest at Kasilof
A report of a black pickup driving over seagulls at Kasilof Beach on Monday night ended with a Fairbanks man in jail on three separate fronts: state DUI and weapons charges, and a federal wildlife citation.
Alaska State Troopers got the drunk-driving report around 10:15 p.m. on July 13, found the truck, and say the occupants appeared intoxicated. Jerome Sinnok, 37, was arrested for DUI after a search turned up a loaded handgun in the center console, adding a fourth-degree weapons misconduct charge. He was taken to Wildwood Pretrial Facility near Kenai.
A U.S. Fish and Wildlife officer separately cited Sinnok over a dead gull under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, which protects most native gulls in Alaska.
The charges are accusations. Sinnok is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
