UniSea will recruit seafood workers Wednesday, Oct. 21, from 10 am to 2 pm at the Seafood Employment Office inside the Anchorage Midtown Job Center. The Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development announced the event and posted an online application.

UniSea's primary processing plant is in Dutch Harbor in Unalaska, according to the company.

Alaska seafood processing employed 22,597 workers in 2023, 81% of them nonresidents, and paid about $631 million in wages, according to state labor data.

Many seafood processors have used the federal H-2B visa program, and UniSea started using it in 2019, Mike Mason, a Senate staff member, told the House Labor and Commerce Committee on May 1 while presenting a Senate resolution supporting federal work visa programs. He said the program's nationwide cap has made it harder to get enough visas, so the industry is trying to recruit more people from the Lower 48 and from Alaska.
