Bering Sea pollock companies are hiring at an Anchorage event

Companies that catch and process Bering Sea pollock are hiring in Anchorage next month.

The At-Sea Processors Association holds a hiring event Thursday, Oct. 29, at the Anchorage Midtown Job Center. The jobs run six weeks to four months, on a factory trawler out at sea or at a shore plant, and pay a share of the catch rather than an hourly wage.

Applicants have to pre-register and sit through a seafood orientation first, offered weekday mornings, and the flyer says to apply on each company's website ahead of time. The companies that could be hiring include American Seafoods, Arctic Storm, Coastal Villages Region Fund, Glacier Fish and Trident Seafoods.

The association's boats work one of the country's largest fisheries. It says Bering Sea pollock accounts for more than a third of all U.S. fishery landings.
