Troopers say Sterling driver failed to stop and had heroin after a short pursuit
Alaska State Troopers arrested a driver in Sterling on Monday after they say he failed to stop for them near Scout Lake Loop and led them on a short pursuit that ended at a residence.
Troopers tried to pull the vehicle over at about 12:52 pm, according to the troopers' report. They said the driver's license was suspended and that they found heroin in his wallet during a search.
He was taken to Wildwood Correctional Center and charged with fourth-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance, a class C felony, along with two class A misdemeanors: second-degree failure to stop and driving while license suspended, according to court records. A public defender was appointed at his arraignment Tuesday in Kenai.
The charges are accusations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
