Troopers say Anchor Point man fired handgun during argument on Anchor Point beach
Alaska State Troopers arrested a 40-year-old Anchor Point man Friday after investigators say he discharged a handgun in a threatening manner during a verbal altercation on Anchor Point beach.
Troopers went to the beach area Oct. 16 on a report of a disturbance, according to the agency's daily dispatch. The dispatch says the man had a prior felony conviction that barred him from possessing a concealed firearm.
He faces three counts of third-degree assault and two counts of third-degree misconduct involving weapons, listed as felon in possession. Troopers took him to the Homer Jail.
State law makes it a crime for a person convicted of a felony to possess a firearm that can be concealed on the person, a class C felony.
Troopers note that the charges are accusations and that he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
