Napaskiak man arrested after troopers say he pulled a handgun on VPSO

A Napaskiak man brandished a handgun at a village public safety officer who was responding to an assault call Friday, Sept. 25, Alaska State Troopers said.

The man is accused of assaulting a woman. The village public safety officer responded first, after the report came in at 11:42 am, and troopers say the man pulled the gun during that officer's investigation. State troopers, wildlife troopers and Alaska Bureau of Investigation investigators then went to the village and arrested him at a fish camp nearby.

He faces eight charges, according to court records. The two most serious, both felonies, are coercion and third-degree assault with a weapon. The others are four counts of fourth-degree assault, one of resisting arrest and one of assault with a child present. Troopers said some of the assault charges involve a peace officer.

He is being held at the Yukon-Kuskokwim Correctional Center. He was arraigned Sept. 26, and a preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 6 in Bethel.

The charges are accusations, and he is presumed innocent.
