State to train home care providers on the record-keeping rules behind recoupment

The Division of Senior and Disabilities Services said Thursday it will hold a virtual training on provider record-keeping requirements Sept. 29 from 1 to 2:15 p.m. It is a one-off, not the monthly provider webinar.

The rules carry a penalty. Alaska home care providers whose service documentation is not signed or initialed and dated within 14 days risk having those claims treated as overpayments subject to recoupment.

Records must show who provided the service, including name, signature or initials, credentials and date of signature. Providers must keep those records at least seven years. When data moves from paper into electronic visit verification or another electronic system, the division says the original paper documentation must still be kept for audits.

State regulation 7 AAC 105.230 makes claims lacking required documentation overpayments subject to recoupment.
