State offices at 4600 Debarr Road in Anchorage close early Friday for mechanical issues
State offices at 4600 Debarr Road in Anchorage closed early at 9:30 am Friday because of mechanical issues, the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities said in a notice. The notice did not say what the mechanical issues were or when the offices would reopen.
Employees who are set up to telework should keep working unless their supervisors approve otherwise, the notice said.
State employees who protect the health and safety of Alaskans must stay at work unless they are on approved leave arranged with their immediate supervisors. The notice names certain offices within the Departments of Public Safety, Corrections, and Family and Community Services, plus other 24-hour services.
The state said it will update its website, alaska.gov, through the day. Employees must check the site regularly for updates, and members of the public can check it as well.
The state's office-closure policy allows the governor, the governor's designee or the DOT&PF commissioner to close state offices to protect employees or the public. The state's lease list shows the 4600 Debarr Road building as a leased office property, with the lease set to expire June 30, 2027.
Other state offices have closed for building problems this year. In July, a power outage closed the state offices at 4001 Ingra St. in Anchorage at 1 pm for the rest of the day, Alaska News reported July 23. On Oct. 22, the state office building in Fairbanks closed for a water shutoff, at least its fourth closure since December.
