Fairbanks state office building closes again, this time for a water shutoff
State offices at 455 3rd Ave. in Fairbanks closed Thursday for a planned water shutoff, at least the fourth time the building has closed since December, according to state notices.
The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities said in a notice to subscribers that all state offices in the building would be closed. It did not say which agencies are there, why the water was shut off or when it would return.
The building houses the Fairbanks branch office of the state Labor Department's Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, in Suite 150. The September closure halted its walk-in service for vocational rehabilitation and disability employment support.
The office closed for lack of heat on Dec. 15, 2025, and for remediation work a week later, according to earlier state closure notices. It closed for flooding on Sept. 11. The National Weather Service had no flood warning or advisory in effect for the Fairbanks area that day.
None of the notices have said what caused the flooding, what the remediation addressed or whether the closures are related.
Based on a press release from Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities.
