Flooding closes state labor office on Third Avenue in Fairbanks

Flooding closed the state Department of Labor office at 455 Third Ave., Suite 150, in downtown Fairbanks on Friday, Sept. 11, cutting off walk-in service for the day. The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities announced the closure.

The address houses the Fairbanks Branch Office of the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, which serves the Northern Region. The division says on its contact page that it "provides services to persons with disabilities that help them prepare for, secure, retain, or regain employment."

Telework-ready employees are to keep working unless a supervisor approves otherwise, the state said. Employees in offices that protect health and safety, including certain offices in Public Safety, Corrections, Family and Community Services, and other 24-hour services, must stay on the job unless they have approved leave.

The state said it will update alaska.gov periodically through the day, and employees must check it regularly for updates.
