Anchorage's new Muni.org is live, but some old links now lead nowhere
Anchorage launched a redesigned Muni.org on Friday, and some links to pages on the old city website stopped working.
Links to a 2025 Assembly memo on a shelter contract, a mayor's office press release on a police use-of-force review and the purchasing department's bidding page led to a "not found" page when checked Friday afternoon.
The city warned that people may run into problems during the switch and asked residents to report them through a feedback form at the bottom of the site. Search results will improve as the system indexes more pages, it said.
The new site's menus are organized around everyday tasks, like riding the bus, reporting a pothole, checking on snowplows and making an online payment. It's built for phones, has a chatbot and can display in 80 languages, the mayor's office said.
The old site dated to the early 2000s, was hard to update and navigate, and ran on software its original vendor no longer supported, the office said. Mayor Suzanne LaFrance thanked the city's IT staff for "their creativity managing the old and clunky Muni.org."
The city hired Revize, a company that builds government websites, after a competitive process in late 2025. The mayor's office didn't say what the new site cost. The city's online checkbook shows it has paid Revize about $44,000 so far for professional services, software maintenance and cloud hosting. It doesn't show what the full contract is worth.
The office said the redesign aligns with Americans with Disabilities Act standards, with clearer layouts, better contrast and screen-reader support. More features are coming over the next few months.
