Prince William Sound king salmon limit stays at one fish through Sept. 15

Anglers trolling Prince William Sound this weekend can keep one king, unless they're fishing one of four terminal harvest areas. The one-fish bag and possession limit holds in the Sound's salt waters through Sept. 15. The exceptions are Whittier, Cordova, Valdez and Chenega, where the limit stays at two fish and four in possession.

The cap lands mid-season, with kings biting. The department reports good catch rates in the northeast part of the Sound, especially near Glacier Island, so anglers are hooking fish they now have to be choosier about keeping.

The limit comes out of a Gulf-wide move the department made in February, applying the same one-fish rule across the Alaska Peninsula, Kodiak and Prince William Sound from April through mid-September to ease pressure on king stocks going through a stretch of low productivity. The weak runs are the reason, and the anglers on the water are the ones adjusting to it.

A 2026 sport fishing license and king stamp are required.
