Mobile DMV coming to Clarks Point, Manokotak, Newhalen and Nondalton in November
Residents of four Bristol Bay villages will be able to take road tests and get driver's licenses and REAL IDs in their own communities this month, when Bristol Bay Native Corporation and a Fairbanks DMV business bring mobile services to the region, the corporation announced Oct. 29.
The stops are Clarks Point on Nov. 17, Manokotak on Nov. 18 and 19, Newhalen on Nov. 20 and Nondalton on Nov. 21. The visits will also offer instruction permits and standard and senior ID cards.
The state's own mobile DMV program for rural Alaska is fully booked for 2026. The DMV is taking names for 2027 and says its private business partners "may have greater scheduling flexibility."
The company doing the visits, Turbo Tags and Titles, is one of those partners. They're privately owned and charge their own fees, according to the state. Last year, the company made trips to communities including Minto, Huslia, Fort Yukon and Kaltag.
Residents need to verify their documents ahead of time through a link for their village in BBNC's announcement. Each person pays for their own services, and cards are preferred.
BBNC staff will also be on hand to help with shareholder forms, resumes, career exploration and registering descendants. Shareholders who complete a will for their BBNC stock at the event will be entered for door prizes.
