High surf and minor flooding for Alaska's west coast through Thursday

Coastal communities from the Yukon Delta to Kivalina should expect high surf and minor flooding through Thursday night as a Bering Sea low-pressure system moves into Norton Sound.

Water levels are forecast to run 1 to 3 feet above the normal high tide line across much of the Norton Sound area, with the highest water in eastern Norton Sound. West and northwest winds could gust to 45 mph from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday night, with moderate to heavy rain along the coast.

Forecasters do not expect significant impacts, but are asking coastal residents to keep an eye on updates as the system comes ashore.

It moves inland Thursday and Friday, trailing showers and cooler temperatures across northern Alaska into the weekend.
