Hideout Lounge liquor license renewal goes to Assembly

The Anchorage Assembly decides Tuesday, Oct. 6, on its consent agenda, whether to waive its right to protest the liquor license renewal for Al's Alaskan Inn and Hideout Lounge, an inn that lists no dining room.

Allen Henry Choy LLC runs Al's Alaskan Inn and Hideout Lounge at 7830 Old Seward Highway under a Beverage Dispensary Tourism License, a hotel bar license. Its renewal application lists 19 guest rooms, five with kitchens. Under dining facility, it wrote "none."

State law requires a hotel tourism license holder seeking renewal to have a dining facility or kitchens in most rental rooms. The application says the inn was built when the license required 10 sleeping rooms. It says "the legislature 'grandfathered' these rights with the Governor's authorization and signature in 2018." It reports no violations or citations in the past two years.

Anchorage has 60 days to file a written protest, through Oct. 19. The state Alcoholic Beverage Control Board honors a protest unless it finds it "arbitrary, capricious and unreasonable."
