Anyone who wants to run for office in the Aleutians East Borough has a 12-day window. Candidate filing opens Aug. 24 and closes Sept. 4.

Five seats are on the Oct. 6 ballot: mayor, two Assembly seats, and two school board seats. Winning outright takes 40 percent of the vote. Anything less sends the race to a runoff.

Voters who still need to register have until Sept. 6, two days after filing closes. Absentee ballots are available through the borough clerk's office.
