Sitka opens candidate filing for municipal election

Anyone in Sitka who has thought about running for local office has about three weeks to decide. Filing for the Oct. 6 municipal election closes at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7.

Six seats are on the ballot: the mayor's office, for a two-year term; two Assembly seats, three years each; and three School Board seats, two of them three-year terms and one a single year.

The residency bar depends on which job you want. Assembly candidates have to be qualified voters who have lived in Sitka continuously for the 12 months before the election. School Board candidates need only 30 days.

Candidate packets are at the Municipal Clerk's Office on the third floor at 100 Lincoln Street.
