Doyon opens a descendant registry with hiring preference and training

Descendants of Doyon, Limited shareholders will soon have a new path to hiring preference, workforce training and internships. The Interior Alaska Native corporation is opening a Descendant Registry this fall, and says registered descendants become eligible for those benefits in summer 2026 — before the fall application period opens, a gap it hasn't explained.

Registering will take paperwork many families won't have on hand. Every applicant must submit certified birth certificates for themselves and their parents and, depending on how they descend from an original shareholder, may also need grandparents' certificates, marriage or adoption records, or other documents to verify Alaska Native lineage. Because gathering official records takes time, the corporation is urging descendants to start now.

Registering does not change ownership. It creates no new stock, grants no voting rights and does not provide the Doyon Settlement Trust distribution; the corporation describes it as a way to connect descendants and prepare for future gifting or inheritance. Registered descendants also receive newsletters and business updates and can be featured in "Descendant Spotlights."
