Dorothy Grant's 40 years of Haida design come home to Juneau

Dorothy Grant grew up in Hydaburg and went on to put Haida design on the international fashion stage. This summer, four decades of her work are home in Alaska, at the State Museum in Juneau through Oct. 17.

"Raven Comes Full Circle" traces Grant's path from traditional regalia to contemporary fashion, the ceremonial and the runway side by side. She belongs to the Yahgw Janáas clan of the Haida Nation, and the show was organized by the Haida Gwaii Museum and curated by Nika Collison, first mounted in Haida Gwaii in 2024 before coming north.

The centerpiece traveled from Washington. Grant's "Raven Takes the World" wedding dress, its matching headdress and her "Raven's Beak" shoes came on loan from the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian for the Juneau run.

Adult admission is $14, and it's free for anyone 18 and under.
