Chugachmiut is hiring a lead for nearly $7 million in Indigenous education work

Chugachmiut, the Chugach region's Native nonprofit, is looking for someone to lead nearly $7 million in federally funded Indigenous education work.

Its Tribal Education Department is taking proposals through Sept. 11 for a senior contractor to run three projects at once: reviving Sugt'stun, the Sugpiaq language; developing Indigenous teaching methods and social-emotional, trauma-informed learning; and building community and career programs for Indigenous youth.

The nonprofit wants an individual or firm to serve as principal investigator and project lead, with experience running complex federal education projects and knowledge of Indigenous data sovereignty and Tribal research governance. It especially wants someone who has worked with Alaska Native Tribes, Indigenous language education and Education Department grants.

The posting lists no pay or contract length. The largest of the three, the $5.8 million Chugach Identity Project, runs to 2029; two smaller federal education grants end Sept. 30.
