Anchorage housing resource fair Friday at Mountain View Library

Getting housing help in Anchorage usually means chasing a half-dozen agencies across town, each with its own office, appointment, and stack of paperwork. For one afternoon Friday, they'll all be in the same room.

The Office of Citizenship Assistance and the Anchorage Public Library are hosting a free, walk-in resource fair at the Mountain View Library on June 26, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. No appointment, open to anyone who shows up.

The useful part is the lineup, because it covers the whole arc of a housing crisis at once. The Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness and the Division of Public Assistance are there for people in the hardest spot right now. Cook Inlet Housing and the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation work the other end, rental help and a path toward owning. Access Alaska and the Anchorage Neighborhood Health Center fill in the rest.

The quiet one on the list is the DMV. A state ID is often the first domino, the thing you need before you can sign a lease, claim benefits, or start a job. Putting it in the room clears a step that stops a lot of people cold.
